So you’re planning a trip to Australia, and you’re looking for good Australia travel deals! The good news is that the web makes finding travel deals easier than ever before. You’ll need to do some planning first, so that you know how long you want to stay, what parts of the country you want to visit, and your approximate travel budget. Then you can go online and start looking for deals.

Any trip planner will tell you that before you start researching actual travel arrangements and looking for the best deals, you need to know where, when, and for how long. You’ll also need to decide whether you want to arrange your own itinerary and daily agenda, or whether you want to travel as part of a package tour group.

Where: What part of Australia do you want to visit? Most international flights fly into Sydney, on the East coast, or Melbourne, in the SouthEast. You could easily spend your entire trip in or near either of these cities. It’s also a short journey to other down under attractions, including wine country and the legendary outback.

When: Keep in mind that Australia’s seasons are the opposite of those in North America. So when it’s winter in the US, it’s summer in Australia. The cheapest airfares from the US to Australia are generally available from April to August — winter in Australia — but the winters are fairly mild and the summers very hot, so this can be a great time to travel.

How long: Obviously, this will depend on your vacation schedule, but since it’s such a long flight if you live in North America or Europe, plan to stay for at least two weeks.

On your own or with a tour? This is largely a matter of personal preference, but it’s something you’ll need to decide before you start looking for travel deals.

Once you’ve answered those questions, you can start to look for good deals. Try shopping for airfares online, at sites like Expedia or VirtualTourist.com. Also look into finding discounted airfares from trip consolidators. Australian tour companies sometimes offer discounted fares if you book directly with them. And don’t forget to try a local travel agent; sometimes they can get better deals than what you can get on your own.

Hot Tip: Recently I heard about a new guide for getting cheap flights, written by a downsized airline employee. He supposedly reveals some insider secrets for getting the cheapest possible airfares. To check it out, Click Here.

If you’re willing to go off the beaten track a bit, you can save on lodging, as well. Lots of Australian pubs also provide lodging, and it’s often cheaper than staying at a hotel. You can also look into house swapping sites, if you have a home you’re willing to swap. Check out sites like HomeExchange or HomeForSwap if this is an option that interests you.

Finally, if you plan to travel by air inside Australia, buy Qantas discount coupons before you leave. Air travel inside Oz can be quite expensive, but you can save significantly by buying the Qantas coupons. They’re only available to non Australians, and you have to buy them in your home country.

I hope this article has given you some ideas for how to find the best Australia travel deals. Enjoy your trip!
